[SAT 01 MAY 2021 – 01:02:22 UTC]
The draw for the UEFA group phase of qualifiers for the 2023 Women’s World Cup was held on FRI 30 APR 2021 in Nyon, Switzerland. The record 51 entrants will play for eleven places at the Women’s World Cup, and one place in the playoffs.
The Netherlands, Euro 2017 champions and defeated finalists at the 2019 Women’s World Cup, were placed in Group C with Iceland, Czech Rep, Belarus, and Cyprus. Two time Women’s World Cup winners Germany were drawn into Group H with Portugal, Serbia, Israel, Turkey, and Bulgaria.
The teams were allocated to nine groups, three containing five teams and four containing six teams. In each group, each team will play all opponents twice. The first placed team in each group qualifies for the Women’s World Cup, and the second placed team advances to the UEFA playoffs.
In the UEFA playoffs, the six lowest ranked of the nine second placed teams play off in three single matches. Then, the three winners each play a single match against one of the three highest ranked second placed teams. Of the winners of these three matches, the two highest ranked [including group phase and playoff results] qualify for Australia/New Zealand 2023. The other winner advances to the final playoffs.
The group phase begins in SEP 2021 and concludes in SEP 2022. The UEFA playoffs will be played in OCT 2022.
