Pots for UEFA group phase draw announced
[MON 26 APR 2021 – 05:36:47 UTC]

UEFA have announced the pot allocations for the 51 teams – more than ever before – to take part in the group phase of qualifiers for the 2023 Women’s World Cup. The draw will be held on FRI 30 APR 2021.

The participating teams have been divided into six pots. The Netherlands, Women’s European Championship title holders and losing finalists at the 2019 Women’s World Cup, lead up pot 1, which also features previous Women’s World Cup champions Germany and Norway.

The teams will be drawn into nine groups, three with five teams each and six with six teams each. In each group, the teams will play one another twice. The first placed teams qualify for Australia/New Zealand 2023.

The second placed teams advance to the playoffs. Of these nine teams, the top three based on their group records will receive a bye into the second round. The other six enter the first round, where they will be drawn into three matches. The winners advance to the second round, where each plays a single match against one of the byed teams. The top two winners based on their overall point totals, including both the group phase and the playoffs, qualify for the Women’s World Cup. The other winning team takes part in the final playoffs for one last chance to qualify.

The group phase opens on WED 15 SEP 2021 and is due to complete on TUE 06 SEP 2022.
