Pots confirmed for Women’s World Cup draw
[SAT 22 OCT 2022 – 06:08:54 UTC]
FIFA have confirmed the pot allocation for the 2023 Women’s World Cup draw, to be held in Auckland/Tāmaki Makaurau, New Zealand, on SAT 22 OCT 2022.
The host nations, Australia and New Zealand, are placed in the first pot along with the six teams ranked highest in the FIFA rankings of OCT 2022: the United States, Sweden, Germany, England, France, and Spain. New Zealand will be placed in Group A automatically, and Australia will be placed in Group B.
Each group will contain one team from each pot. No group may contain more than two UEFA teams or more than one team from any other confederation, with the exception of the playoff winners. Placeholders will be used for the winners of the three playoff groups, meaning that groups with a playoff placeholder could end up with two teams from the same confederation. However, since Portugal are in playoff Group A and are the only UEFA team in the playoffs, the Group A placeholder cannot be drawn into a group that already has two UEFA teams.
The draw will be held at 19:30 NZDT [06:30 UTC] on SAT 22 OCT 2022 in Auckland/Tāmaki Makaurau, New Zealand.
