Tazuni introduced as Women’s World Cup mascot
[THU 20 OCT 2022 – 03:42:43 UTC]

The mascot for the 2023 Women’s World Cup is Tazuni, a blue penguin. A member of the species Eudyptula minor, endemic to the coast of New Zealand, she was introduced on WED 19 OCT 2022.

Tazuni’s name derives from the Tasman Sea joining the host nations of Australia and New Zealand, and from the word unity. An animated video created by FIFA introduces her as a fifteen year old penguin who first becomes enamoured with football after joining in with children playing on a beach.

This is the third consecutive Women’s World Cup to be represented by a bird, following Shuéme, a snowy owl who represented Canada 2015, and Ettie, a Gallic chicken who represented France 2019.
