CAF announce qualifying format

The CAF executive committee have approved the format for CAF’s qualifiers for the 2026 Men’s World Cup. All 54 CAF member nations are expected to enter the competition, which determines nine places at the Men’s World Cup and one in the playoffs.
The 54 teams will all begin in the group phase, where they will be divided into nine groups of six teams each. Teams will play each group opponent twice, and the first placed teams in each group qualify for the Men’s World Cup. Of the second placed teams, the top four advance to the CAF playoffs.
The CAF playoffs follow a single match elimination format, with the winner advancing to the interconfederation playoffs.
