Cameroon, Senegal earn tickets to playoffs
[TUE 19 JUL 2022 – 00:33:16 UTC]

Cameroon and Senegal have advanced to the playoffs after their wins in the repechage playoff matches at the CAF Women’s African Nations Cup on SUN 17 JUL 2022. Cameroon edged Botswana 1-0, whilst Senegal defeated Tunisia on penalties.

Senegal lost their quarterfinal match to Zambia on penalties but rebounded against Tunisia. After 90 goalless minutes, Korka FALL scored the decisive spot kick that placed the Teranga Lionesses just two matches away from their first ever Women’s World Cup appearance.

After falling to Nigeria 1-0 in the quarterfinals, Cameroon defeated Botswana by the same scoreline in the repechage. Ajara NCHOUT scored the only goal in the first half. Cameroon’s Fadimatou ARETOUYAP was sent off in the 84th minute, but the Mares were unable to capitalise.

Cameroon and Senegal will travel to New Zealand in FEB 2023 to play for the last three places at the 2023 Women’s World Cup. They will be joined by Chinese Taipei, Haiti, Panama, Thailand, and four other teams still to be decided.
