
Four automatic CAF places decided as quarterfinals complete

Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, and Zambia have qualified for the 2023 Women’s World Cup with their victories in the quarterfinals of the CAF Women’s African Nations Cup WED 13-THU 14 JUL 2022.
Zambia qualified for their first Women’s World Cup by defeating Senegal 4-2 on penalties after their quarterfinal match ended 1-1.
Tournament host Morocco also qualified for the first time with a 2-1 victory over Botswana. Yasmin Katie MRABET headed in the winning goal to place a north African side in the Women’s World Cup for the first time.
Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Cameroon maintained their perfect record of qualifying for every Women’s World Cup to date. Rasheedat AJIBADE’s second half goal from a header proved the difference.
In the last quarterfinal match, South Africa qualified for the second time by defeating Tunisia 1-0 through an early goal by Jermaine SEOPOSENWE.
The losing semifinalists will have another chance to qualify. In the repechage playoffs on SUN 17 JUL 2022, Senegal face Tunisia, and Botswana meet Cameroon. The winners advance to the playoffs, to be held in New Zealand in FEB 2023.
