CONCACAF qualifying format confirmed
[SAT 21 DEC 2024 – 04:14:59 UTC]
CONCACAF have confirmed the format of their qualifiers for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. Similar to previous editions, a preliminary group phase will be followed by a tournament that will decide CONCACAF’s four automatic places at the final tournament.
The preliminary round will begin in OCT 2025. The participating teams will be drawn into six groups – the number of teams in each group will be dependent upon the number of teams entering. The top two teams will receive a bye in this round.
When the preliminary round ends in APR 2026, the first placed team in each group will advance to the CONCACAF W Championship, to be played in NOV-DEC 2026 as a single elimination tournament with three rounds.
The quarterfinal winners will qualify for Brazil 2027, and the semifinal winners will also qualify for the women’s football tournament at the 2028 Summer Olympics. The losing quarterfinalists will play off for CONCACAF’s two places in the second round of the interconfederation playoffs.
