UEFA qualifying format confirmed
[SAT 21 DEC 2024 – 03:48:49 UTC]
UEFA have confirmed the format of their qualifiers for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. Teams will be divided into leagues, as with the UEFA Women’s Nations League and European Women’s Championship qualifiers.
The league phase will begin in FEB 2026 with three leagues. League A and League B will each contain four groups of four teams each. League C will contain six groups, some containing four teams and some containing three. Allocations to leagues will be based on the results of the 2025 UEFA Women’s Nations League.
Teams will play each opponent in their group twice. The first placed team in each League A group will qualify for Brazil 2027. There will then be two rounds of playoffs involving the remaining League A teams, the top three teams in each League B group, the first placed team in each League C group, and the top two second placed teams in League C. Each playoff will be played over two legs.
Of the eight teams that emerge from the playoffs, the top seven in the league rankings [by league and group position] will qualify for Brazil 2027, completing UEFA’s 11 automatic places. The remaining playoff winner will advance to the second round of the interconfederation playoffs.
The league phase results will also determine promotion and relegation for the 2027 UEFA Women’s Nations League.
