Argentina have qualified for the 2023 Women’s World Cup with a 3-1 win over Paraguay in the third place match of the CONMEBOL Women’s Copa América in Armenia, Colombia on FRI 29 JUL 2022. Paraguay will have another opportunity in the playoffs.

Paraguay took a 1-0 lead into the halftime interval on an own goal, but Argentina stormed back in the last fifteen minutes. Yamila RODRÍGUEZ equalised in the 78th minute. Then in the 90th minute, Florencia BONSEGUNDO’s free kick beat Paraguay keeper Alicia BOBADILLA at the far post, and Rodríguez added her second on a counterattack shortly thereafter to seal the victory.

For Argentina, it is their fourth trip to the Women’s World Cup. Paraguay are still in the running to qualify for the first time; they will join Chile as CONMEBOL’s two representatives at the playoffs to be played in New Zealand in FEB 2023.
