The semifinals of the 2023 Women’s World Cup were played TUE 15-WED 16 AUG 2023.

• Spain 02-01 Sweden: Spain had the majority of the attacking momentum throughout, but the match remained goalless until the 81st minute, when Salma PARALLUELO picked off a Swedish defensive clearance and fired home into the far corner. Rebecka BLOMQVIST levelled the scoreline in the 88th, but mere seconds later, la Roja were celebrating again, as Olga CARMONA beat Swedish keeper Zecira MUSOVIC with a shot that rebounded down off the crossbar and into the net. The result sends Spain to their first final, with Sweden falling at the semifinal stage for the fourth time.
• Australia 01-03 England: Nearly 76,000 packed Stadium Australia for the Matildas’ first ever semifinal appearance. England, however, played a tough, physical match from the start. Ella TOONE gave the Three Lionesses the lead in the 36th minute. But just after the hour mark, Australia captain Sam KERR, making her first start of the tournament after a calf injury, received the ball in her own half and finished a 30 yard run with a powerful strike from outside the area. Shortly thereafter, though, Lauren HEMP was gifted the ball in a dangerous possession and made no mistake. A late goal by Alessia RUSSO made sure of England’s first ever trip to the final. Australia will still have an opportunity to claim their first ever medal in the third place match.
