• Spain 02-01 Netherlands [F/OT]: Only ten minutes after conceding the penalty that put Spain in front, Stefanie VAN DER GRAGT scored the equaliser in stoppage time. But in extra time, Salma PARALLUELO scored her first goal of the tournament from the top of the area, sending la Roja to the semifinals for the first time in their history.
• Japan 01-02 Sweden: Amanda ILESTEDT’s fourth goal of the tournament, followed by a penalty by Filippa ANGELDAHL, gave Sweden a two goal lead. Japan fought back late, starting with Riko UEKI’s penalty that struck the bar. Honoka HAYASHI pulled one back in the 87th minute, but the Nadeshiko were unable to find the equaliser. Japan’s elimination means that there will be a first time champion in 2023.
• Australia 00-00 France [F/OT; pen: 07-06]: A tense affair nearly ended cruelly with an own goal for France in extra time, but the play was disallowed for a foul by Wendie RENARD. The match went to a lengthy penalty shootout, and in the ninth round, Matildas goalkeeper Mackenzie ARNOLD twice saved Kenza DALI’s attempts, the first disallowed when Arnold came off her line early. In the tenth round, Vicki BECHO hit the post, and Cortnee VINE responded by converting to the left of substitute French keeper Solène DURAND. Australia become the first host nation in twenty years to advance to the semifinals.
• England 02-01 Colombia: Before a partisan crowd in Sydney/​Gadigal, NSW, the Cafeteras took the lead late in the first half on a deflected shot by Leicy SANTOS. England, however, equalised just before the interval when Lauren HEMP pounced on a shot that skipped out of the fingers of Colombian keeper Catalina PÉREZ. Alessia RUSSO put England ahead for good just after the hour mark.
