The draw for the 2019 Women’s World Cup was held on SAT 08 DEC 2018, and the results have offered up several pairs of frequent opponents. For instance, the United States and Sweden will meet for the fifth consecutive Women’s World Cup. Brazil and Australia will meet for the fourth consecutive tournament, as will Japan and England.

The US and Sweden meet on the last day of Group F, after both teams take on Thailand and Chile. This marks the fifth consecutive time that the US and Sweden have been drawn into the same group. The US won twice, Sweden once, and the most recent meeting, at Canada 2015, was a goalless draw. Sweden also defeated the US in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Olympic women’s football tournament.

Brazil face Australia in Group C, four years after the Matildas eliminated Brazil in the round of sixteen at the 2015 Women’s World Cup. Brazil won their head to head matchups at the two previous tournaments. Italy and Jamaica also feature in the group.

England and Japan renew their finely balanced rivalry in Group D. Their meetings at the last three Women’s World Cup include one draw and one win for each side, including the Nadeshiko’s semifinal victory in 2015. They meet on the last day of the group, after they each face Scotland and Argentina.

The tournament opens on FRI 07 JUN 2019 with France’s match against the Korea Rep in Paris. Thirty days later, the two teams still standing will meet in Décines to decide the eighth Women’s World Cup.
