• Poland 00-00 Switzerland: Needing a victory, the Swiss peppered Anna SZYMANSKA’s goal, and they continued to press forward after Szymanska gave way to Katarzyna KIEDRZYNEK midway through the second half. Both keepers, though, were up to the task, and Switzerland could manage only a draw...
• Albania 01-02 Scotland: ...which opened the door for Scotland in Group 2. Kim LITTLE opened the scoring nine minutes in, with Megi DOCI equalising for the home side in the 45th. But in the 68th, Caroline WEIR’s free kick found Jane ROSS, whose perfectly placed header secured Scotland’s first ever trip to the Women’s World Cup. Switzerland, as one of the four highest second placed teams, remain alive in the playoffs.
• Norway 02-01 Netherlands: Norway opened strong with goals from Ingrid SYRSTAD ENGEN and Isabell HERLOVSEN in the first six minutes. Vivianne MIEDEMA answered for the Dutch on the half hour mark, but Norway held on to qualify as Group 3 winners. The European champions will have another chance to qualify through the playoffs.
• Denmark 00-01 Sweden: Sofia JAKOBSSON provided the lone goal in the first minute after halftime, as Sweden claimed the Group 4 title. Denmark advance to the playoffs.
• Faroe Is 00-08 Germany: Braces for Lina MAGULL, Carolin SIMON, and Alexandra POPP secured top spot in Group 5. Meanwhile, the 1-1 draw between Iceland and the Czech Rep ended both teams’ hopes of reaching the playoffs.
• Belgium 02-01 Italy: With the Azzurre already in as Group 7 winners, Belgium earned their place in the playoff on the back of Davinia VANMECHELEN’s two goals. The playoff draw will be held on Friday.
