Fiji to host OFC Women’s Nations Cup
[FRI 29 APR 2022 – 17:19:53 UTC]
The OFC have confirmed that Fiji will host the Women’s Nations Cup. Nine teams will take part in the tournament, to be played WED 13-SAT 30 JUL 2022.
Of the eleven FIFA members in the OFC, nine – the Cook Is, Fiji, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, the Solomon Is, Tahiti, Tonga, and Vanuatu – will play in the tournament. New Zealand will not take part, having qualified automatically for the Women’s World Cup as cohost, whilst American Samoa declined to enter, citing the continuing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The draw will be held on TUE 10 MAY 2022. The teams will be allocated into three groups, each containing three teams. All but the last placed team overall advance to the quarterfinals. The winner of the tournament advances to the playoffs, giving the OFC an opportunity to place two teams in the Women’s World Cup for the first time ever.
