Group F recap
[WED 02 AUG 2023 – 12:59:34 UTC]
France and Jamaica advanced out of Group F at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, as Brazil and Panama were eliminated.
Les Bleues opened their tournament with a goalless draw against Jamaica. Then, Wendie RENARD’s late header earned then a 2-1 win over Brazil. Their final group match began with Marta COX giving Panama the lead on a spectacular free kick, the Cañaleras’ first ever goal at a Women’s World Cup. France, however, took control of the match shortly afterward, earning a 6-3 win led by Kadidiatou DIANI’s hat trick.
After the draw with France, the Reggae Girlz earned a 1-0 win over Panama on Allyson SWABY’s headed goal. The Jamaican defense, which has yet to concede at this tournament, remained firm in their last match against Brazil, repelling every attack and securing the 0-0 draw that was sufficient to claim a place in the round of 16.
France will meet the second placed team in Group H on TUE 08 AUG 2023 in Adelaide/Tarntanya, SA. Jamaica will take on that group’s leader in Melbourne/Naarm, VIC, earlier the same day.
