Ettie, the mascot for the 2019 Women’s World Cup, was introduced on French television on SAT 12 MAY 2018. She is a young Gallic chicken, and, according to FIFA, the daughter of the 1998 Men’s World Cup mascot Footix.

Ettie made her first public appearance on a French morning programme, where her lineage was explained. Her name derives from étoile, the French for star, and she was described as having a “sparkling personality” and an enthusiasm for football.
