[FRI 19 JUL 2024 – 22:21:29 UTC]
The draw for the OFC group phase of qualifiers for the 2026 Men’s World Cup was held on THU 18 JUL 2024. The eight teams to compete were drawn into two groups of four.
Before the group phase, the preliminary round will take place, in SEP 2024. The preliminary matches were determined based on the teams’ positions in the FIFA rankings. The lowest ranked of the OFC’s 11 FIFA members, Tonga, will meet the fourth lowest, the Cook Is, in the semifinals. The other semifinal features the teams ranked in between, Samoa and American Samoa. The semifinal winners will meet in the final, with the winner advancing to the group phase.
The top seven teams earned a bye to the group phase, with the preliminary winner joining New Zealand, Tahiti, and Vanuatu in Group B. Group A features the Solomon Is, Fiji, New Caledonia, and Papua New Guinea. Teams in each group will play each other once in OCT-NOV 2024.
The top two teams in each group will move on to the elimination phase in MAR 2025, where the OFC’s first ever automatic place at a Men’s World Cup will be earned, plus one place in the playoffs.
