Argentina and Poland advanced from Group C at the 2022 Men’s World Cup. Mexico and Saudi Arabia were the two eliminated teams.

The group opened in dramatic fashion, as Saudi Arabia defeated heavily favoured Argentina 2-1. A spot kick from Lionel MESSI put the Albiceleste ahead early, but shortly after the interval, Saleh AL-SHEHRI equalised. Not long after, Salem AL-DAWSARI’s strike from distance touched off pandemonium amongst the Saudi supporters who flocked to Qatar. Argentina, however, bounced back with 2-0 wins over Mexico and Poland to claim top spot in the group.

The Biało-czerwoni began with a goalless draw against Mexico, followed by a 2-0 win over Saudi Arabia and a 2-0 loss to Argentina. However, they edged Mexico to second place on goal difference. Goalkeeper Wojciech SZCZĘSNY was the hero, saving penalties against both Saudi Arabia’s Al-Dawsari and Argentina’s Messi.

Argentina will take on Australia in the round of 16 on SAT 03 DEC 2022. The following day, Poland will meet title holders France.
