Haiti, Portugal, and Panama earned the last three tickets to the 2023 Women’s World Cup with their wins in the playoffs. All three teams will make their first Women’s World Cup appearance.

Haiti defeated Senegal 4-0 to advance to the final of Group B against Chile, where Melchie DUMORNAY put the Caribbean side in front shortly before halftime. In second half stoppage time, a penalty save by Chile keeper Christiane ENDLER kept la Roja in the match, only to see Dumornay put a second goal past her. Maria ROJAS pulled one back for Chile, but Haiti held on for the 2-1 victory.

In Group A, Cameroon won 2-0 against Thailand to set up a decisive clash against Portugal, but a late red card would prove costly, as Ange BAWOU, the Indomitable Lionesses’ goalkeeper, was suspended for the final. Diana GOMES put the Navigadoras in front midway through the first half, with Ajara NCHOUT equalising for Cameroon late in the second half. But Portugal were awarded a penalty for a handball in the area in the 90th minute, and Carole COSTA beat the young backup keeper Cathy BIYA to secure the 2-1 win.

Panama were 2-0 winners over Papua New Guinea in their first match of Group C, leading to a match against Paraguay, who had edged Chinese Taipei on penalties. The match was finely balanced until the 75th minute, when Marta COX’s perfectly placed cross from the right flank found Lineth CEDEÑO in the area. Cedeño’s header beat Paraguay keeper Alicia BOBADILLA for the lone goal of the match.

At the Women’s World Cup, Haiti will play in Group D, facing England, China PR, and Denmark. Portugal will meet the Netherlands, Vietnam, and the United States in Group E, whilst Panama’s opponents in Group F will be Brazil, Jamaica, and France.
