AFC set for Women’s Asian Cup draw

The draw for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup will be held on SAT 09 DEC 2017 in Sweimeh, Jordan. The host nation and their seven opponents will be drawn into two groups of four teams each, from which five will qualify for France 2019.
As host nation, Jordan have been assigned to Group A, leaving the only other team in the first pot, title holder Japan, for Group B. The second pot includes the other two teams that qualified automatically for the tournament, Australia and China PR. Korea Rep and Thailand are in the third pot, and the last pot includes two teams looking to make their first Women’s World Cup appearance, Vietnam and the Philippines.
The tournament is due to start on FRI 06 APR 2018. The top two teams in each group advance to the semifinals and qualify directly for the Women’s World Cup. The two third placed teams play off in the fifth place match to decide the AFC’s final representative.
