[SUN 05 NOV 2017 – 22:37:00 UTC]

The OFC has confirmed that the 2018 OFC Women’s Nations Cup is being made a compulsory tournament for all eleven member nations, and that a preliminary round will for the first time be played before the final tournament. The team that lifts the Women’s Nations Cup will qualify for the 2019 Women’s World Cup.

The preliminary round will feature American Samoa, Fiji, the Solomon Is, and Vanuatu. It will be played in Pago Pago, Amer Samoa, MON 27 AUG-TUE 04 SEP 2018.

The Women’s Nations Cup is to be played SAT 17 NOV-TUE 04 DEC 2018. The preliminary round winner joins the remaining seven member nations of the OFC, based upon past performances in OFC tournaments. The OFC will confirm the host nation and the tournament format at a later date.

The OFC’s decision to make participation compulsory means that for the first time, the entire OFC membership will take part in the Women’s World Cup qualifiers. The previous high was eight teams taking part in the 2010 tournament, from which New Zealand qualified for Germany 2011.
