• France 01-00 England: Eugénie LE SOMMER led the French squad to the top of Group F on a booming strike from distance. Nearly 70% of the match was played in England’s half of the pitch.
• Colombia 01-01 Mexico: The other Group F match saw Mexico dominate most of the proceedings but come away with only one goal, from Veronica PEREZ. Daniela MONTOYA equalised for las Cafeteras late on, Colombia’s first Women’s World Cup goal.
• Spain 01-01 Costa Rica: Vicky LOSADA gave Spain a 13th minute lead, but Raquel RODRÍGUEZ equalised on a counterattack just a minute later. The two sides, both in their first Women’s World Cup match, had to share the points in Group E.
• Brazil 02-00 Korea Rep: The Korean squad had some attractive attacking opportunities, but only after falling behind on two poor giveaways in defense. MARTA scored from the penalty spot for her fifteenth career Women’s World Cup goal – breaking Birgit PRINZ’s record – as Brazil become the early leaders in Group E.
