The UEFA preliminary round of qualifiers for Canada 2015 has completed, and unlikely heroines Albania have made it through to the group phase, along with the Faroe Is, Malta, and Montenegro.

The Albanian women’s squad, playing in competitive matches for the first time, opened with a draw against Group A host Malta and then defeated Latvia and Luxembourg to advance. In Group B, Georgia opened with a win against host Lithuania but fell to Montenegro and the Faroes. Montenegran captain Marija VUKČEVIĆ, who scored the first goal of the qualifiers against the Faroes, went on to score once in each match. She is now tied with Malta’s Dorianne THEUMA on three goals each, tops in the qualifying campaign so far.

The four surviving teams join the 38 byed into the group phase, for which the draw occurs on TUE 16 APR 2013.
