FIFA has confirmed the schedule of the 2015 Women’s World Cup, the largest yet. 24 teams will take part in a total of 52 matches, leading up to the final in Vancouver, BC, on SUN 05 JUL 2015.
The tournament opens on SAT 06 JUN 2015 with the first two Group A matches, featuring host nation Canada. These are to be played as a doubleheader in Edmonton, AB. Most group phase matches are played as doubleheaders.
The elimination phase will see the top two teams in each group, plus the four best third placed teams. For the first time in a Women’s World Cup, a sixteen team elimination round is played SAT 20-TUE 23 JUN 2015, followed by the quarterfinals on FRI 26-SAT 27 JUN 2015.
The semifinal matches are TUE 30 JUN 2015 in Montréal, QC, and WED 01 JUL 2015 – Canada Day – in Edmonton. The losing semifinalists will play for third place SAT 04 JUL 2015 in Edmonton, and the winners will travel to Vancouver for the following day’s final.
