Wales defeated Ukraine 1-0 on SUN 05 JUN 2022 to earn qualification to the Men’s World Cup for the second time in their history. The match had been postponed due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Ukraine advanced to the UEFA playoffs as the second placed team in Group D, but their semifinal match against Scotland was postponed after the Russian invasion on THU 24 FEB 2022.

Ukraine defeated Scotland 3-1 in the rescheduled semifinal on WED 01 JUN 2022 to advance to the final. Wales won the final match 1-0 in Cardiff, an own goal proving to be the difference between the two sides.

Wales earn a place at their second ever Men’s World Cup, after having entered every qualifying competition since 1950 but succeeding only in 1958. They will take part in Group B, facing the United States on MON 21 NOV 2022, Iran on FRI 25 NOV 2022, and England on TUE 29 NOV 2022.
