[THU 31 MAR 2022 – 06:29:43 UTC]
Canada, Mexico, and the United States have qualified for the 2022 Men’s World Cup after the CONCACAF final round ended on WED 30 MAR 2022. Costa Rica finished fourth and advance to the CONCACAF/OFC playoff against New Zealand.
Canada qualified for only the second time in their history on a stretch of six consecutive wins, including home wins over Costa Rica, Mexico, and the US in cold weather. The US also took advantage of frigid conditions in their home matches, including a 3-0 win over Honduras in St Paul, MN that was -15°C at kickoff.
Mexico earned their 17th Men’s World Cup appearance with a 2-0 win over El Salvador on the final day. They end up level with Canada atop the table with 28 points, though Canada take top spot on goal difference.
Costa Rica completed the round with a 2-0 win over the US. Though the result was insufficient to qualify automatically, the Ticos move on to the playoff against New Zealand, to be played in Doha, Qatar in JUN 2022.
