Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, and Uruguay have qualified for the 2022 Men’s World Cup as the top four sides in the CONMEBOL group phase. Peru advance to the AFC/​CONMEBOL playoff and will face the winner of the AFC playoff in JUN 2022.

Brazil raced to a new record total of 45 points, the most ever recorded in the CONMEBOL group phase dating back to its introduction in the qualifiers for the 1998 Men’s World Cup. Argentina sit on 39 points, with the teams’ meeting in Brazil still to be rescheduled. The original match was abandoned after five minutes on SUN 05 SEP 2021 when local health officials intervened claiming that several Argentine players who were required to self-isolate per local COVID-19 regulations failed to do so.

The Incas advance to the playoff after defeating Paraguay in Lima. Goals from Gianluca LAPADULA and Yoshimar YOTÚN locked up fifth place for Peru and kept them in contention for a sixth Men’s World Cup apperance. They will face the winner of the AFC playoff between the United Arab Emirates and Australia in Doha, Qatar, in JUN 2022.
