Cameroon, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, and Tunisia have qualified for the 2022 Men’s World Cup after winning their respective ties in the CAF playoffs on FRI 25-TUE 29 MAR 2022.

Senegal defeated Egypt 3-1 on penalties after both sides won their home legs 1-0. Boulaye DIA’s fourth minute goal in the second leg levelled the scores on aggregate. In the penalty shootout, both teams were unsuccessful on their first two attempts, and after Teranga Lion keeper Edouard MENDY saved Mostafa MOHAMED’s penalty, Sadio MANÉ was successful, earning Senegal’s third trip to a Men’s World Cup. However, Egypt have filed a complaint regarding behaviour by Senegal supporters, citing racist behaviour and thrown projectiles during warmups and at the team bus after the match.

Cameroon edged Algeria on away goals after both legs ended 1-0 to the away team after 90 minutes. With away goals tied 1-1, the second leg in Blida went to extra time. A header by Ahmed TOUBA put Algeria ahead in the 118th minute, but deep into stoppage time of the extra time, Karl Toko EKAMBI’s dramatic goal gave the edge on away goals to the Indomitable Lions.

Ghana qualified on away goals after their encounter with neighbours and rivals Nigeria ended 1-1 on aggregate. After the first leg in Kumasi finished goalless, a crucial 11th minute goal by Thomas PARTEY put the Black Stars ahead in the second leg. William Troost EKONG equalised for Nigeria eleven minutes later, but Ghana’s away goal held up in the end.
