The draw for the UEFA group phase of qualifiers for the 2022 Men’s World Cup was held on MON 07 DEC 2020 in Zürich, Switzerland. 13 of UEFA’s 55 member nations will qualify for the tournament.
Title holders France were drawn into Group D with Ukraine, Finland, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Kazakhstan. Defeated finalists Croatia are in Group H with Slovakia, Russia, Slovenia, Cyprus, and Malta.
Five of the groups contain five teams each, and the other five groups contain six teams each. The teams in each group will play one another twice in MAR-NOV 2021.
The first placed teams in each group qualify. The second placed teams advance to the playoffs, along with the two highest ranked group winners from the 2020-1 UEFA Men’s Nations League who did not finish in the top two of their qualifying group.
