Brazil and Switzerland advanced from Group G of the 2022 Men’s World Cup, as Cameroon and Serbia were eliminated.

RICHARLISON scored an early contender for goal of the tournament on an audacious side volley from the top of the area in Brazil’s 2-0 win over Serbia. The Canarinhos followed that up with a 1-0 win against Switzerland, making sure of their place in the round of 16 with a match to spare. They then fielded a rotated squad in a 1-0 loss to Cameroon.

Switzerland opened with a 1-0 victory over Cameroon, with the winning goal coming from Breel EMBOLO, playing against the nation of his birth – and declining to celebrate the goal. Following the 1-0 loss to Brazil, the Swiss needed a result against Serbia, but fell behind 2-1 in the first half. Embolo, however, added his second goal of the tournament, and Remo FREULER scored the decisive goal early in the second half, as Switzerland secured second place in the group.

In the round of 16, Brazil will meet Korea Rep on MON 05 DEC 2022, with Switzerland facing Portugal one day later.
