Portugal and Korea Rep advanced from Group H of the 2022 Men’s World Cup, with Uruguay and Ghana eliminated from contention.

Portugal began the tournament with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Ghana. The scores were level at 1-1 with fifteen minutes to play, but in a two minute span, João FÉLIX and Rafael LEÃO both finished off assists from Bruno FERNANDES, and Portugal held on for the victory. Fernandes then scored both goals in ther 2-0 win over Uruguay, securing their place in the round of 16.

After a goalless draw with Uruguay, Korea Rep rebounded from a 2-0 deficit to Ghana as CHO Gue Sung scored twice in the space of three minutes. However, Mohammed KUDUS’s late goal made it 3-2 in favour of the Black Stars. Needing a win against Portugal to advance, the Taegeuk Warriors conceded early to Ricardo HORTA but equalised midway through the first half. Then, in stoppage time, a swift counterattack following a Portugal corner led to HWANG Hee Chan’s winning goal.

Portugal advance to face the second placed team in Group G, and Korea Rep will meet the top team in that group.
