The Netherlands and Senegal advanced from Group A at the 2022 Men’s World Cup, with Ecuador and host nation Qatar eliminated.
The Netherlands defeated Senegal and Qatar, and earned a draw with Ecuador on their way to the top of the group. Cody GAKPO scored in all three matches.
Senegal pipped Ecuador to second place with a 2-1 win on the final day. A penalty from Ismaïla SARR put the Teranga Lions in front, but Moisés CAICEDO levelled the scores midway through the second half. Kalidou KOULIBALY, though, put his side back in front just three minutes later.
The Netherlands advance to the round of 16, where they will face the second placed team in Group B. Senegal will meet the top team from that group.
