• Ecuador 00-01 Japan: Yuki OGIMI scored off the bar five minutes into the match, and the Nadeshiko rode from there to the top of Group C. Ecuador finish with no points.
• Switzerland 01-02 Cameroon: A goal by Ana Maria CRNOGORČEVIĆ midway through the first half had the Swiss squad in control. However, Gabrielle ONGUENE and Madeleine NGONO MANI led the charge as the Indomitable Lionesses stormed into second in Group C and a round of 16 match with China PR. Switzerland’s three points and +7 goal difference are good enough to put them through as well; they face Canada on Sunday.
• Nigeria 00-01 United States: A lone goal by Abby WAMBACH was enough to secure first place in Group D. Nigeria are out of the tournament, a disappointing outcome given their passionate performance in the 3-3 draw earned in their first outing.
• Australia 01-01 Sweden: A youthful Matildas squad ground out the result that pushes them through as Group D’s second placed team. Lisa DE VANNA scored five minutes in, and Sofia JAKOBSSON equalised for Sweden ten minutes later. Australia take on Brazil in the next round, whilst the Swedes must wait until tomorrow to discover whether they remain alive in the tournament.
• Today’s results also secure places in the elimination phase for the Netherlands and Colombia. The Dutch side face either Germany or Japan in the round of 16, whilst Colombia’s opponent depends upon how they fare against England tomorrow.
