[SAT 11 OCT 2014 – 20:40:06 UTC]
The CAF Women’s Championship began in Namibia with a 2-0 win for the host nation over Zambia, followed by Nigeria winning 4-2 over Côte d’Ivoire.
Namibia’s win opened Group A in Windhoek, as Rita WILLIAMS and Thomalina ADAMS each scored in the first half. The Super Falcons followed with a two goal win of their own, led by a brace from Desire OPARANOZIE.
With Nigeria and Ghana the only two participants who have previously qualified, CAF will send at least one newcomer to the Women’s World Cup. The top three teams will qualify for Canada 2015.
