CONCACAF sets out schedule after draw
[SAT 06 SEP 2014 – 22:44:22 UTC]
The draw for the CONCACAF Women’s Championship was completed in Miami, FL on FRI 05 SEP 2014. Newly crowned Caribbean champions Trinidad-Tobago face host nation United States in Group A, whilst Group B features Mexico and Costa Rica.
The tournament kicks off on WED 15 OCT 2014 with two Group A matches: Guatemala v Haiti, followed by United States v Trinidad-Tobago. The third place and final matches are to be played on SUN 26 OCT 2014. The two participants in the final match and the third place winner qualify for the 2015 Women’s World Cup, and the fourth placed team advances to the playoff against CONMEBOL’s number three team.
Martinique are in Group B but, as a FIFA nonmember, cannot qualify for the Women’s World Cup. CONCACAF have therefore announced that Martinique will not participate in the elimination phase, even if they finish in the top two of the group. This leaves three teams – Costa Rica, Mexico, and Jamaica – to fight for two places in the last four.
- Group A: United States, Trinidad-Tobago, Guatemala, Haiti
- Group B: Costa Rica, Mexico, Jamaica, Martinique
