• Macedonia FYR 01-09 Romania: The group phase began with a bang, as Romania leapt to the front of Group 2. Cosmina DUŞA scored four goals, and Laura RUS added three more.
• Germany 09-00 Russia: Group 1 is the only group with two teams that have Women’s World Cup experience, but one of them hasn’t qualified in ten years. Conceding nine goals by seven different players will surely not help Russia end that streak.
