The intercontinental playoffs concluded on WED 15 NOV 2017, when the last two of the 871 qualifying matches for Russia 2018 were played. Series aggregate results are shown below.

• Australia 03-01 Honduras: After 90 minutes in San Pedro Sula and a further 45 in Sydney, the sides remained on level pegging. But the playoff turned in the second half of the second leg, with set pieces proving the Catrachos’ undoing. Australian captain Mile JEDINAK scored a hat trick on a free kick and two penalties, and despite a late consolation goal by Alberth ELIS, the Socceroos reached their fourth consecutive Men’s World Cup.
• Peru 02-00 New Zealand: Peru’s Jefferson FARFÁN opened the scoring in the 28th minute of the second leg. The All Whites emerged from their halftime team talk eager to attack, but their hopes of reaching Russia were extinguished when Christian RAMOS scored from a 64th minute corner. The final whistle touched off enormous celebrations in Lima, as the Incas return to the Men’s World Cup for the first time in 36 years.
