• Italy 01-01 Spain: VITOLO’s goal early in the second half had the Spanish squad hoping to smuggle three points out of Turin. But Daniele DE ROSSI’s equaliser from the spot leaves both sides two points behind Group G leaders Albania.
• Iceland 03-02 Finland: Robin LOD put the Eagle-Owls in front 2-1 late in the first half. But with Finland minutes away from stealing the points, the polarity of the match was reversed. Alfred FINNBOGASON and Ragnar SIGURDSSON both found net in stoppage time, and Iceland kept pace with Croatia at the summit of Group I...
• Turkey 02-02 Ukraine: ...whilst Turkey and Ukraine could not do the same. Andriy YARMOLENKO opened the scoring with a penalty in the 24th minute, and Hakan ÇALHANOĞLU closed the scoring with a penalty in the 81st minute.
• Hungary 02-03 Switzerland: Hungary were another side with a designated equaliser, as Ádám SZALAI twice levelled the match after goals from the visitors. But a third time was asking too much, as Valentin STOCKER’s 89th minute goal put the Swiss into top spot in Group B.
• Azerbaijan 01-00 Norway: Since their 1991 independence, Azerbaijan entered five Men’s World Cup qualifying competitions, never winning more than one match. Now, in their sixth competition, they have two wins from two matches, good for a tie with Germany atop Group C. Maksim MEDVEDEV’s 11th minute goal was the difference.
• Poland 03-02 Denmark: Robert LEWANDOWSKI’s hat trick gave the home side a commanding lead, but Denmark began chipping away immediately. Just one minute after Lewandowski’s third, an own goal made it 3-1. Yussuf POULSEN added a second in the 69th, but the Eagles held on to join Montenegro and Romania as joint leaders of Group E.
• Scotland 01-01 Lithuania: Fiodor ČERNYCH’s goal on a break put Lithuania ahead in the 59th minute. Thirty minutes later, though, James MCARTHUR equalised on a header, keeping Scotland within two points of Group F leaders England.
