Russia 2018 schedule released
[SAT 25 JUL 2015 – 06:56:17 UTC]
FIFA have confirmed the match schedule for the 2018 Men’s World Cup. The announcement includes the dates and locations for the 59 matches that had not previously been declared; a previous announcement covered the opening match, semifinals, third place match, and final.
The tournament opens on THU 14 JUN 2018 with Russia in the opening match in Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium. The group phase will complete on THU 28 JUN 2018, and following a day off, the elimination phase will kick off on SAT 30 JUN 2018. The third place match will be played on SAT 14 JUL 2018, and the final will be on SUN 15 JUL 2018.
All twelve stadiums host four matches in the group phase. Kaliningrad, Saransk, Volgograd, and Yekaterinburg will not host any further matches. The remaining eight stadiums host one round of 16 match each, but Rostov-on-Don and Moscow’s Spartak Stadium will be done at that point. Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, and Sochi also get one quarterfinal each. St Petersburg gets a semifinal and the third place match, whilst the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow will play host to the other semifinal and the final.
Each stadium will be visited by at least one seeded team in the group phase, but the group matches in the two Moscow stadiums always involve seeded teams. All eight seeded teams, in fact, will visit either the Luzhniki or the Spartak in the group phase.
