The FIFA executive committee has decided to retain the same allocations by confederation at the 2018 Men’s World Cup as at the previous two tournaments. The decision caps a week that featured the arrests of seven leading officials on corruption charges and the reelection of FIFA president Sepp BLATTER.

Meeting in Zürich, Switzerland following the FIFA congress, the executive committee ruled that the allocations would remain the same for both the 2018 and 2022 events, making a total of at least four consecutive tournaments with the same allocations. This, however, was the first time that the allocations were decided after the start of the qualifiers.
