UEFA qualifying draw procedure
[SAT 30 JUL 2011 – 06:37:11 UTC]
At the qualifying draw for Brazil 2014, the draw for the
UEFA group phase will be made. The teams will be drawn into nine groups. Each will contain one team from the first five pots, and all groups but one will also contain a team from Pot 6. The one constraint is that in keeping with UEFA policy dealing with political tensions,
Russia and
Georgia will be placed in separate groups. The same applies to
Armenia and
Azerbaijan, but as these two have ended up in the same pot, the job is automatically done. The nine group winners qualify, and the best eight second placed teams advance to the
playoffs, to be drawn later.

Belize take last spot in CONCACAF group phase
[TUE 19 JUL 2011 – 03:31:16 UTC]
With a 3-1 win over
Montserrat,
Belize won their delayed
CONCACAF preliminary round series and earned a place in the
first group phase. Deon MCCAULAY, who scored a hat trick in the first leg, added another goal to lead Belize to victory by an 8-3 aggregate scoreline. The second leg was played in Honduras because of a dispute in which the government of Belize refused to provide security, resulting in a temporary FIFA suspension.
OFC qualifying format amended
[THU 14 JUL 2011 – 05:44:30 UTC]
FIFA has approved a change to the
OFC’s qualifying process for Brazil 2014. Where the men’s football tournament at the 2011 Pacific Games was to serve as the first round, there will now be a
first round involving the four lowest ranked teams [as of the FIFA rankings for J
UL 2011], with the winner joining the other seven OFC members in the
2012 OFC Nations Cup. The semifinalists of that tournament will then play in the
final round, which will be a four team, double round robin group as before. The winner advances to the
playoffs against an opponent from another confederation.
