Argentina's party as they won the final 2-1 against
Nigeria in Utrecht,
Netherlands. Lionel MESSI not only earned Argentina's two penalties, he converted each personally, his fifth and sixth of the tournament. In addition to the Golden Boot, he also earned the Golden Ball as the tournament's top player.
Brazil won the third place match 2-1 against
Morocco.

The crush occurred at one of the gates of the stadium in Nairobi, which had been kept shut for several hours before the spectators began to force their way in. CT 2004, four were killed in a stampede that started with a power outage. Spectators exiting Kegue Stadium in Lomé reportedly panicked when the lights went out, leading to a surge toward the exits. However, reports that three had died in Conakry prior to the match between
Guinea and
Morocco in
Group 5 were disproved, although several fans were injured trying to enter the stadium without tickets. Investigations into both incidents are underway.
