FIFA's Disciplinary Committee have decided that the CAF second round Group 5 match between Kenya and Tunisia on SAT 03 SEP 2005 must be played behind closed doors after a prematch stampede killed a teenaged fan on SAT 18 JUN 2005. The committee also levied a 25,000 Swiss franc [US$19,300] fine on Kenya. The Kenya Football Federation intends to appeal.

Luis TEJADA's opening penalty was saved by US keeper Kasey KELLER, and los Cañaleros went on to miss two more shots in the afternoon heat in East Rutherford, NJ, USA. US coach Bruce ARENA was suspended from the match after being sent off in the semifinal against Honduras, but his squad performed well under assistant Mooch MYERNICK to claim their third Gold Cup.

The 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship was Argentina's party as they won the final 2-1 against Nigeria in Utrecht, Netherlands. Lionel MESSI not only earned Argentina's two penalties, he converted each personally, his fifth and sixth of the tournament. In addition to the Golden Boot, he also earned the Golden Ball as the tournament's top player. Brazil won the third place match 2-1 against Morocco.

Brazil defeated archrivals Argentina 4-1 to claim the 2005 Confederations Cup title at the Waldstadion in Frankfurt, Germany. ADRIANO scored twice, making him the tournament's leading scorer with five goals, as KAKÁ and RONALDINHO added the other Brazilian goals. It is the Verdeamarelhos' second time winning the tournament, which brings together the champions of the six confederations plus the Men's World Cup holders. In the third place match, Michael BALLACK scored in overtime to earn Germany a 4-3 win over Mexico.

FIFA approves Aussies' move to AFC

Young Kenya fan killed in crush
