Mexico qualify, T-T to face Ecuador
[WED 29 OCT 2014 – 05:55:22 UTC]

Mexico have qualified for the 2015 Women’s World Cup with a win in the CONCACAF Women’s Championship third place match, defeating Trinidad-Tobago 4-2 in overtime and sending T-T to a playoff against Ecuador. Later in the day, the United States won the final 6-0 over Costa Rica.

Mexico had the early lead on a first half goal by Stephany MAYOR, but a header from Kennya CORDNER put the Soca Princesses back on level terms. They briefly took the lead on a Mariah SHADE goal, but Mónica OCAMPO equalised just one minute later. In extra time, Charlyn CORRAL scored twice to ensure Mexico’s participation in their third Women’s World Cup.

The final was a dominant performance by the US, who claimed the CONCACAF title for the seventh time. Abby WAMBACH led the scorers with four goals.

The tournament handed out Canada 2015 places to the US, Costa Rica, and Mexico. Trinidad-Tobago have one more opportunity to qualify in the CONCACAF/CONMEBOL playoff against Ecuador.
