Competition in Group A of the Women’s Asian Cup concluded on SUN 18 MAY 2014 with Japan and Australia qualifying for the Women’s World Cup. Vietnam will play off against the third placed team in Group B for another place at Canada 2015.

After playing to a 2-2 draw on the tournament’s opening day, Japan and Australia each made short work of their other group opponents, Vietnam and Jordan. As a result, both advance to the semifinals and earn a place at the Women’s World Cup, with reigning world champions Japan in first place on goal difference.

Also on opening day, host nation Vietnam defeated Jordan 3-1, earning three vital points that advance them to the fifth place match against either Myanmar or Thailand. The winner of that match also qualifies, as the AFC have a record five places at Canada 2015.
