Draw determines Africa’s road to Canada
[SAT 05 OCT 2013 – 18:37:59 UTC]

The draw for the CAF Women’s Championship has been held, and Nigeria are the odd ones out as they must survive two knockout rounds in order to reach the final tournament. The top three qualify to the Women’s World Cup.

The host nation, Namibia, advances automatically to the CAF Women’s Championship, and the top three at the 2012 tournament – Equatorial Guinea, South Africa, and Cameroon – receive byes into the second of the preliminary rounds that decide the other seven teams at the tournament. Despite being the only African team to qualify for all six previous Women’s World Cups, Nigeria’s fourth place finish in 2012 means they must now enter in the first preliminary round.

Each preliminary series is to be played over two legs, starting on THU 13 FEB 2014. The CAF final tournament is to be held in Namibia SAT 11-SAT 25 OCT 2014.
