Mbappé, at nineteen, becomes France’s youngest ever goalscorer at a Men’s World Cup. Les Bleus secure a place in the elimination phase with the victory, whilst Peru are eliminated from contention. Denmark can take Group C’s other ticket to the round of sixteen with a draw against France on Tuesday.
• Argentina 00-03 Croatia: After a first half filled with physical play, but devoid of goals, Croatia took the lead in unlikely fashion in the 53rd minute. An attempt at a lobbed pass by Albiceleste keeper Wilfredo CABALLERO fell directly to Ante REBIĆ, who easily volleyed it into the open net. Luka MODRIĆ added a second in the 80th, and Ivan RAKITIĆ a third in stoppage time. The result ensures that Croatia will progress from Group D, and makes Argentina’s path to the elimination phase much more precarious. They face Nigeria on Tuesday and will most likely need a win plus help from Croatia in their match against Iceland.
