PROUDLY RETURNING PIERLUIGI COLLINA’S STARE SINCE 2001

South Africa-Senegal annullment confirmed
[SAT 16 SEP 2017 – 00:15:18 UTC]

FIFA’s competition organising committee has confirmed the annullment of the CAF group D match between South Africa and Senegal due to match manipulation by the referee. The match will be replayed in NOV 2017.

The bureau for Men’s World Cup qualifying had made the decision to annul the match, which South Africa originally won 2-1 on SAT 12 NOV 2016, after referee Joseph LAMPTEY’s lifetime ban was upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The decision took effect immediately but required ratification by the competition organising committee.

The replay will take place during the international break of MON 06-TUE 14 NOV 2017. As a result, South Africa and Senegal will play one another twice during that time: the regularly scheduled match in Senegal, and the replay in South Africa. The order of the matches, and the specific dates, are yet to be announced.
