But Harry KANE, wearing the captain’s armband for the first time, salvaged a draw for England in stoppage time. The Three Lions are now only two points clear of Slovakia in Group F.
• Norway 01-01 Czech Rep: Theodore GEBRE SELASSIE and Alexander SØDERLUND scored in either half as the teams played to a draw. They fall further off the pace set by Germany and Northern Ireland in Group C.
• Poland 03-01 Romania: A hat trick from Robert LEWANDOWSKI took his total to 11 goals in six matches; he is now joint top scorer, along with Portugal’s CRISTIANO RONALDO, in the UEFA qualifiers. Poland still lead Montenegro and Denmark by six points in Group E.
• Serbia 01-01 Wales: Aleksandar MITROVIĆ struck in the second half to neutralise a penalty by Aaron RAMSEY. All three Group D matches ended in draws, leaving Serbia as joint leaders with Ireland Rep, as Wales and Austria are both four points back.
• Macedonia FYR 01-02 Spain: A second half goal by Stefan RISTOVSKI made things interesting, but it was not enough to overcome Spanish goalscorers David SILVA and Diego COSTA. La Furia Roja are still atop Group G, in front of Italy on goal difference.
• Iceland 01-00 Croatia: Hordur MAGNÚSSON scored the only goal on a 90th minute corner, handing Croatia their first loss in Group I. The teams are now level atop the group, with Turkey and Ukraine only two points behind.
